AFN Zonal Elections put on hold!

Elections into the board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, expected to start this Wednesday with the election of the six zonal representatives have been put on hold by the National Sports Commission, NSC.
In a message by the Secretary General, Israel Inwang early Tuesday morning to all athletics stakeholders, especially the member state associations, the NSC advised that those travelling for Wednesday’s zonal elections should not do so.
‘I am directed to inform all Delegates, Contestants, Observers etc for the 2025 Zonal Elections not to travel to their Zones yet. Please wait for further directives from the NSC before we proceed with the Zonal Elections,’ read the message.
Sportsnow.com.ng cold not confirm the reason for this directive but feelers from the NSC revealed the untidiness of the arrangements made by the AFN, especially the violations of several provisions of its constitution related to the elections.
One of these violations is the appointment of a seven-man electoral committee when the AFN Constitution (2017 and 2023 as amended clearly stated that a 3-man electoral committee should oversee the elections while the AFN Congress in Bayelsa appointed a 7-man electoral committee).
