Osimhen makes Turkish football history, nets goal number 35 in 39 games

Galatasaray’s Nigerian star Victor Osimhen has become the foreign footballer with the most goals in a season in Turkey.

Osimhen, who is the top scorer race in the Super Lig with 24 goals in 28 matches netted a double in Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat of Trabzonspor in the Turkish Cup final.

He found the back of the net in the 47th and 63rd minutes.

The 26-year-old has now scored for the fifth time in his fourth match in the competition.

The star striker, who also has six goals in seven matches in the UEFA Europa League, reached 35 goals in his 39th official competition and has now supplanted former Galatasaray player Mario Jardel (34) as the most prolific foreign footballer in a season in Turkey.

Osimhen, who now has 43 goal contributions for Galatasaray, will also break Alex de Souza’s record for the most goal contributions in a season if he makes two more goal contributions in the remaining three matches.
