Ese Brume moves top of African top list with 6.70m, Ofili sets 15.85 World best in 150m
Reigning African long jump record holder, Ese Brume is getting back to her best. The 29-year-old leapt a personal season’s best of 6.70m to place fourth at the adidas Atlanta City Game on Saturday at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia.
The mark is the farthest by an African woman so far this season, moving the reigning Commonwealth Games champion from the 13th spot she was prior to Saturday’s event after jumping 6.14m in April to number one, supplanting the duo of Egypt’s Esraa Owis and Prestina Ochonogor of Nigeria who have both jumped 6.67m this year.
In the women’s 150m, Favour Ofili stormed home first in 15.85 seconds ahead of Tamaris Davis (16.14 PB) and Ashanti Moore of Jamaica (16.50).
The time is a new world mark for the rarely run and unrecognized event.
In the 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan ran a wind-aided 12.53 to come second behind Keni Harisson of the USA (12.44) but did not run in the final won by Harisson who ran another wind-aided time (12.30).
In the men’s 100m, Udodi Onwuzurike sped to a wind-aided 10.05 to place second behind South Africa’s Akani Simbine who won in 9.86 into a 2.3ms tail wind.
