NPFL 2025/26: Rivers United kick off pre-season as Enyimba set June 20 return
Rivers United have officially commenced preparations for the upcoming 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign. A total of 25 players reported for pre-season training under the guidance of Technical Manager Finidi George at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The players were warmly welcomed by Finidi and his coaching team as the club begins its build-up to the new season, with a series of friendly matches expected to follow.
Rivers United secured a second place finish last season, just behind champions Remo Stars, and will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League alongside the winners.
Meanwhile, Enyimba FC have announced June 20 as their official resumption date for pre-season activities. The team is scheduled to train at 7:30 a.m. at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba. This was confirmed in a statement issued by the club’s Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, who emphasized full compliance from all players and officials.
The 2025/26 NPFL season is set to kick off on Friday, August 22, 2025. Enyimba, who finished sixth with 55 points last season, narrowly missed out on a place in continental competition.
