Super Falcons land in Lisbon for Portugal friendly ahead of WAFCON 2025

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have arrived in Lisbon, Portugal, for a high-profile international friendly against the Portuguese women’s national team, as part of their final preparations for the 13th Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) set to kick off in Morocco next month.

The nine-time African champions departed Abuja on Sunday morning aboard a Royal Air Maroc flight to Casablanca before continuing to Lisbon. The friendly match will take place on Monday, June 23, at the Estádio José Gomes in Amadora, kicking off at 7pm local time (same as Nigeria).

The friendly against Portugal is the first of two crucial warm-up matches lined up for the Super Falcons. They will also face arch-rivals Ghana’s Black Queens in Morocco on Sunday, June 29, just days before the continental showpiece begins.

The team has been training in Abuja over the past week, with sessions at the MKO Abiola National Stadium and Turf Arena. Key players already in camp include goalkeepers Chiamaka Nnadozie and Tochukwu Oluehi, defender Osinachi Ohale, midfielder Christy Ucheibe, and forward Francisca Ordega.

They will be joined in Lisbon by overseas-based stars such as Michelle Alozie, Ashleigh Plumptre, captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Jennifer Echegini, Toni Payne, and Esther Okoronkwo.
