NNL Super 8: JayJay Okocha stadium Ogwashiukwu wears new look
The stage is nearly set in Delta State as the revamped Jay Jay Okocha Stadium in Ogwashi-Uku prepares to host the much-anticipated Nigerian National League (NNL) Super 8, scheduled for July 5th to 12th.
Named after iconic Super Eagles maestro Austin Jay Jay Okocha, the stadium has received a refreshing facelift, with its surroundings spruced up and facilities upgraded to match top-tier standards. This renovation reflects the commitment of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, to providing a world-class environment for athletes and officials alike.
‘We are super excited that the stadium has undergone these enhancements,’ said NNL Board Chairman, Mr. George Aluo. ‘It’s in line with the governor’s pledge to create the best platform for our talents to thrive.’
Eight ambitious teams—Crown FC (Ogbomosho), Kun Khalifat FC (Owerri), Doma United (Gombe), Osun United (Oshogbo), Wikki Tourists (Bauchi), Yobe Desert Stars (Damaturu), Warri Wolves (Warri), and Barau FC (Kano)—will clash in what’s already being billed as a titanic contest for four coveted promotion slots to the Nigerian Premier League.
Aluo further assured that the high standards of the regular season would be surpassed: ‘What lies ahead in the Super 8 promises to be spectacular. We urge fans to come out in numbers to enjoy the best of Nigerian football.’
