NSC Aligns with Commonwealth Clean Oceans Campaign
Nigeria will host the King’s Baton Relay in Abuja from July 1–2, 2025, marking a major milestone in the countdown to the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
In a ceremony of global significance, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will formally receive the Commonwealth Sport King’s Baton, with a visiting delegation from Buckingham Palace in attendance.
A historic tradition of the Commonwealth Games, the Baton Relay symbolizes unity, peace, and shared values across participating nations.
This year’s event carries added purpose as the Commonwealth Sport movement, in partnership with the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) and Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC), champions the ‘Commonwealth Clean Oceans Plastics Campaign.’
The initiative mobilizes athletes, youth, and communities across member nations to combat plastic pollution and promote ocean sustainability.
With a goal to prevent one million plastic pieces from reaching Commonwealth waters, the campaign leverages the power of sport and community action to drive behavior change, spotlight innovative waste solutions, and raise global awareness.
