AFN appoints DSP Solomon Aliyu (rtd) as Head Coach

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) says it is proud to announce the appointment of DSP Solomon Aliyu (rtd) as the new Head Coach of Nigerian Athletics, effective immediately.

Coach Aliyu assumes this pivotal role with a wealth of experience as a seasoned athletics coach and a respected figure in the Nigerian sports community. His appointment marks a strategic step forward in AFN’s commitment to high-performance excellence, talent development, and coaching innovation.

In his two-year tenure (renewable based on performance), Coach Aliyu will:

Lead all national athletics coaching programs

Develop and implement strategies for athlete development

Train and prepare Nigerian coaches for international and domestic competitions

Coordinate national coaching efforts across all levels

Propose high-performance frameworks aligned with global standards

He will work closely with AFN’s Technical Director to ensure optimal synergy and sustained progress.
