Flying Eagles soar late to snatch draw against Ghana in WAFU U20 opener

The Flying Eagles rallied late to secure a 1-1 draw against Ghana’s Black Satellites in their first match of the WAFU B U20 Boys Tournament on Thursday in Prampram, Ghana.

Ghana took the early lead courtesy of a tidy finish from captain Musbau Azeez in the 26th minute. Nigeria fought back but struggled to break through, with captain Daniel Bameyi earning a yellow for a fierce challenge before halftime.

Nigeria ramped up pressure in the second half and thought they had a penalty shout in the 66th minute, but the referee waved it off. Odinaka Okoro nearly curled in a free kick in the 76th, and finally, in the 84th minute, Mohammed Abdulahi rose highest to head home from a corner and restore parity.

The Flying Eagles now gear up to face the Young Cheetahs of Benin Republic in what promises to be another fiery clash on Sunday.
