Athletes both home-based and abroad based graced the track in a crucial qualification contest ahead of the World Athletics Championships scheduled for Tokyo later this year.
The event held special significance—not just as a performance stage, but as a symbolic return to the very track where Enoch Adegoke etched history in 2021, clocking 10.00 seconds to win his first national 100m title and secure a berth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
This time, the comeback king once again stirred memories, posting a season’s best of 10.28s to clinch gold in the men’s 100m Final 2, a moment that reminded fans of his resilience and pedigree.
Also turning heads in the sprints was Olaolu Olatunde, who lowered his legal personal best to 10.18s, underlining his intent to break into the elite ranks of Nigerian sprinting.
In the women’s equivalent, Olayinka Olajide defended her title in style, stopping the clock at 11.48s. Rising star and CAA U20 standout Success Oyibu continued her upward trajectory with a sparkling PB of 11.58s.
In the quarter-mile, seasoned campaigner Patience Okon-George delivered yet another dose of consistency, recording 51.85s—her second-fastest time of 2025, proving her form is peaking at the right moment.

Over at the throwing circle, Emeka Ugwu launched the shot put to 15.50m. His winning mark confirmed his continued relevance among Nigeria’s top-tier throwers.
In the discus event, Adebayo Richard Faforiji hurled his implement to an impressive 46.93m, a performance that earned him the title and cemented his reputation in national discus circles.
