Onwuzurike’s comeback begins in Continental Tour Bronze meeting in Portugal

After a two-month break from competition, Udodi Onwuzurike, Nigeria’s 2021 World U20 200m champion, is set to make his return at the Meeting Maia Cidade do Desporto.

The 22-year-old sprinter will line up in the men’s 200m, aiming to hit the World Championships automatic qualifying mark of 20.16s.

His last outing was a wind-aided 10.05s in the 100m at the adidas Atlanta City Games on May 17, while his most recent 200m race was a 20.50s clocking at the Tom Jones Memorial in Florida.

Joining him in Portugal is Knowledge Omovoh, who will compete in the women’s 100m.

With a personal best of 11.26s and a season’s best of 11.51s, Omovoh is also chasing the qualifying standard for Tokyo and looking to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.

The Meeting Maia 2025, now part of the World Athletics Continental Tour – Bronze, brings together elite and emerging talent from across the globe.
