Nigeria Wins Hosting Rights for 2nd African School Games in 2027

Nigeria has officially secured the hosting rights for the 2nd African School Games, scheduled for 2027, following a competitive bidding process concluded on Tuesday in Algiers, Algeria.

The announcement was made during the closing sessions of the inaugural edition of the Games, where Nigeria’s delegation, led by Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), and Habu Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), presented a compelling case for the country’s readiness.

Nigeria edged out strong contenders including South Africa and Kenya, with its bid buoyed by a proven track record of hosting high-profile sporting events such as the National Sports Festival and the 3rd CAA Africa U18/U20 Athletics Championships.

These events were lauded for their top-tier organization, athlete welfare, and infrastructure.

While the specific venue proposed for the 2027 Games was not disclosed publicly, it is expected to be part of the formal documentation submitted to the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), which oversees the continental school sports initiative.
