Amy Okonkwo Headlines 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket All-Tournament Team

Nigerian forward Amy Okonkwo has etched her name into AfroBasket history, becoming only the second Nigerian player to win back-to-back MVP honors at the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.

Her stellar performances helped Nigeria’s D’Tigress secure a record-extending fifth consecutive continental title, defeating Mali 78–64 in the final at the Palais des Sports de Treichville.

Okonkwo played all 40 minutes of the championship game, scoring 19 points and leading Nigeria’s charge to victory.

Over the course of the tournament, she averaged 14 points, 6 rebounds, and posted an efficiency rating of 15.6, delivering double-digit scoring in four of five games. Her consistency and leadership earned her the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the second time, having previously won it in 2023.

She now joins Mfon Udoka (2003, 2005) as the only Nigerians to achieve this feat.

In addition to her MVP accolade, Okonkwo was named to the 2025 All-Tournament Team, the only Nigerian to receive the honor. She was joined by:

Cierra Dillard (Senegal) – Averaged 13.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, overcoming injury to lead Senegal to the semifinals.

Delicia Washington (South Sudan) – Tournament’s top scorer with 18.2 points per game, guiding South Sudan to a historic bronze medal in her debut appearance.

Jane Asinde (Uganda) – Captain of Uganda, posted 15.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game, earning the highest efficiency rating among Zone Five champions.

Sika Koné (Mali) – Averaged a double-double with 10.4 points and 11 rebounds, including 16 points and 13 rebounds in the final against Nigeria.

Nigeria’s triumph marks their seventh overall AfroBasket title, further solidifying their dominance in African women’s basketball.

Under the guidance of Coach Rena Wakama, D’Tigress extended their unbeaten run in the competition to 29 games since 2017.
