Ghana Reschedules Regional Athletics Championship to Honour Helicopter Crash Victims

Ghana Athletics has announced a change in the dates for the upcoming CAA Region II Seniors Athletics Championship, originally slated for August 15–16, 2025.
The event will now take place on August 18–19 at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The decision comes in response to a National Mourning Period declared by President John Dramani Mahama, following a tragic helicopter crash that claimed multiple lives.
In a show of solidarity and respect, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), in consultation with the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Region II, opted to postpone the championship.
Despite the shift, organizers have assured that the quality and integrity of the event will remain intact. All logistics, accreditation, and technical arrangements will be adjusted to accommodate the new schedule.
The LOC expressed gratitude to participating nations, athletes, sponsors, and stakeholders for their understanding and support, emphasizing their commitment to hosting a world-class event that honors both sport and the solemn moment.
Nigeria is billed to compete in the competition.
