SWAN Hails Omidiran’s Appointment as FCC Chairman
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has extended heartfelt congratulations to Honourable Ayo Hulayat Omidiran on her appointment as Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement released Thursday by SWAN Secretary-General, Ambassador Ikenna Okonkwo, the association’s President, Isaiah Benjamin, described the appointment as a well-deserved recognition of Omidiran’s distinguished contributions to public service, politics, and sports development.
Benjamin commended Omidiran’s leadership pedigree, noting her enduring impact across multiple sectors.
‘Hon. Omidiran has consistently demonstrated integrity, vision, and a passion for fairness in every leadership capacity,’ he said. ‘From her pioneering role in women’s football and service on the FIFA Women’s Committee, to her tenure in the House of Representatives where she championed sports development, she has been a relentless advocate for progress.’
He further emphasized that Omidiran’s appointment reflects the value of experience and excellence in national leadership.
‘We in SWAN are proud to see one of the most outstanding advocates for Nigerian sports take on such a vital national role. Her track record gives us confidence that she will bring the same level of dedication and excellence to the Federal Character Commission as she has always brought to every assignment.’
Omidiran’s legacy in sports administration includes her service as a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chairperson of the NFF Women’s Football Committee, and founder of Omidiran Babes Football Club in the 1990s. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, where her strategic insight continues to shape policy and direction.
SWAN reaffirmed its support for Omidiran in her new role, expressing optimism that her wealth of experience will be instrumental in repositioning the FCC to fulfill its constitutional mandate of equity, fairness, and inclusion. The association also encouraged other sports administrators to aspire to leadership roles beyond the field of play.
