Countdown To Diamond League Final: Tobi Amusan and Noah Lyles Chase History
The stage is set for a thrilling climax to the 2025 Wanda Diamond League season as Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan and American sprint star Noah Lyles prepare to chase history at the Final, scheduled for August 27–28 at the iconic Weltklasse Zürich.
Amusan, the reigning world record holder in the 100m hurdles, arrives in Zurich with her sights firmly set on a fourth Diamond League title.
Having triumphed in each of her three previous appearances at the Final, Amusan stands on the cusp of equaling the legendary Dawn Harper-Nelson’s record of four titles in the event.
Notably, Harper-Nelson remains the only high hurdler to have won four Diamond League titles consecutively, a feat she achieved between 2012 and 2015.
A victory in Zurich would not only place Amusan in elite company but also make her one of the few sprinters in Diamond League history—alongside Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce—to win four titles in a single sprint discipline.
Amusan qualified for the Final after a strong season, finishing second in the standings behind Grace Stark, and will look to reclaim her crown in what promises to be a fiercely contested race.
Meanwhile, Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles returns to Zurich with a record-breaking sixth Diamond Trophy in his sights.
Lyles, who began his Diamond League campaign late due to injury, has already amassed five titles—four in the 200m and one in the 100m.
A win in Zurich would make him the first track athlete in Diamond League history to claim six overall titles, placing him just one shy of the all-time record of seven held jointly by French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie and American triple jumper Christian Taylor.
Despite a delayed start to his season, Lyles has demonstrated formidable form since July, winning the 200m in Monaco and securing runner-up finishes in the 100m in London and Silesia.
He will compete in Zurich on a global wildcard, determined to extend his legacy as one of the most dominant sprinters of his generation.
