Boniface says he will prioritize team success over personal goals at Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen have completed the surprise deadline-day loan signing of Nigerian international Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 24-year-old striker, known for his explosive style and infectious energy, was officially unveiled on Wednesday, September 3, and spoke candidly about his ambitions, mindset, and emotional connection to his new club.

Boniface, who will wear the number 44 shirt this season, expressed his excitement about the move and emphasized that the decision to join Werder was straightforward.

‘There were other options but I wanted to stay in Germany and in the Bundesliga,’ he said.

A key influence in his decision was close friend Senne Lynen, who had consistently spoken highly of the club.

‘Senne is a good friend of mine. We’ve talked about Werder a lot, and that played a role in my decision.’

In his first press conference as a Werder player, Boniface made it clear that his focus is on collective success rather than individual accolades.

‘I never set personal goals ahead of the season, like scoring a certain number of goals. I want to be successful with the team and win games. That’s what matters most to me,’ he stated.

Boniface’s choice of jersey number also carries personal significance.

‘At Leverkusen I wore number 22, the day my mum passed away. It wasn’t available here, so I doubled it. 44 is my way of honoring her.’
