Troost-Ekong insists: Super Eagles will play at 2026 FIFA World Cup
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed unwavering confidence ahead of Nigeria’s pivotal 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa.
The match, set for Tuesday night at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, could prove decisive in Group C’s race for a ticket to next year’s global tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Troost-Ekong, who was named Man of the Competition at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, stressed that Nigeria will approach the clash with composure and respect, leaving behind memories of their semi-final victory over Bafana Bafana at that tournament.
‘We defeated them at the Africa Cup but that is in the past and some changes have been made to both teams since then. Our approach will be devoid of arrogance; we will play with level heads and go all out for victory.
There will be no arrogance but we will not be diffident either. South Africa is a good team that we respect but we just have to go on the pitch and play our game. Our objective has not changed; we want to go to the FIFA World Cup finals next year,’ said Troost-Ekong.
