‘Her achievement is a source of national pride’: Tinubu congratulates Amusan on historic achievement
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Nigerian track and field star Tobi Amusan following her remarkable performance at the ongoing 20th World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu praised Amusan’s relentless drive, resilience, and unwavering spirit.
‘Tobi has once again demonstrated that with patriotic fervour, coupled with hard work and determination, any height is surmountable. Her achievement is a source of national pride,’ the President said.
Amusan secured the silver medal in the 100m hurdles, becoming the third Nigerian athlete in history to win two medals at the World Athletics Championships.
Her latest accomplishment builds on her groundbreaking performance three years ago in Oregon, where she became the first Nigerian to win a world outdoor medal and set a world record of 12.12 seconds in the event.
That same year, Amusan also claimed gold at the Commonwealth Games, making history as the first track and field athlete to successfully defend a Commonwealth Games title.
She currently holds multiple records, including the Nigerian national record, Nigerian Championships record, African record, African Games record, and the world record in the 100m hurdles.
President Tinubu commended Amusan’s dedication to excellence and assured her of the government’s continued support in her athletic endeavours.
He expressed confidence that her achievements would continue to inspire future generations of Nigerian athletes and serve as a beacon of national pride.
