Enyimba Coach, Captain Upbeat Ahead of Bendel Insurance Clash on Sunday

Coach Stanley Eguma and Enyimba’s stand-in captain, Ufere Chinedu, have expressed confidence that the People’s Elephant will maintain their strong league form when they face Bendel Insurance on Matchday 5 of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference with Enyimba Media, both Eguma and Ufere acknowledged the significance of the fixture, describing it as one of the league’s longest standing rivalries.

They emphasized that the nine-time NPFL champions are well-prepared and focused on securing maximum points to consolidate their position at the top of the table.

‘I think we are ready for tomorrow’s game (Sunday). It’s a big match as Enyimba FC and Insurance are both traditional teams that have represented Nigeria well.

So far, we are trying to consolidate our position on the log. You know it’s not easy getting to the top spot; every team is working to stabilize their squad.

Because we have a lot of new players joining this season, it becomes a little bit difficult. But for tomorrow’s game, we are ready and the boys are in high spirit.

After posting a good outing in Yenagoa, we are optimistic about getting the job done tomorrow (Sunday), and we need over a hundred percent concentration to achieve it,’ stated Eguma, now in his second season with the Aba-based side after departing Rivers United.

Historically, Enyimba has struggled against Bendel Insurance in recent league encounters. In their last nine meetings, Enyimba has managed just one win, while Insurance has claimed two victories, with six matches ending in draws.

Echoing his coach’s sentiments, Ufere Chinedu stressed the team’s readiness and determination.

‘Yeah, Sunday against Insurance is a crucial game for us, especially after drawing them here last season.

‘We’ve used that experience to fuel our preparation. Our commitment to improve has been remarkable, and we’ve worked tirelessly for this moment.

‘We are confident in our ability to execute our plan effectively. It’s more than a match for us — it’s an opportunity to maintain our unbeaten run and solidify our position on the log.

‘We are going all out for the maximum points, as we can’t afford to drop any more points at home,’ the former Sporting Lagos FC midfielder concluded.
