Iwobi misses out as Gravenberch wins EPL Player of the Week award

Liverpool’s Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has been named the Premier League Player of the Matchweek, topping a fan poll for Matchweek 5 with a standout performance in the 2-1 Merseyside derby win over Everton.

Gravenberch made history as the youngest player to both score and assist in a Premier League Merseyside derby.

He opened the scoring with a brilliant hooked finish from a Mohamed Salah cross, then turned provider with a precise pass that set up Hugo Ekitike for Liverpool’s second goal.

The 23-year-old earned 31% of the fan vote, beating Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes (20%) to the top spot.

Among the other nominees were, Anton Stach got 16%, Jeremy Doku and Nordi Mukiele 11% each, Alex Iwobi got 6%, Martin Dubravka got 4% while Tyrick Mitchell got 1% of the votes.

Despite a strong showing, Iwobi missed out on the award, finishing behind several of his Premier League peers in the poll.
