‘I’ve been waiting to score for this club for a long time’: Ebere Eze nets first Arsenal goal in cup win

Eberechi Eze says he is delighted to have scored his first goal for Arsenal in the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over League One side Port Vale at Vale Park on Wednesday.

The Nigeria-born England international opened his Arsenal account with a well-taken goal.

The £60 million summer signing struck in the eighth minute, calmly finishing from Gabriel Martinelli’s assist to give Arsenal an early lead in his sixth appearance for the club.

The 27-year-old nearly doubled his tally before halftime after being played through by Mikel Merino, only to be denied by Port Vale goalkeeper Joe Gauci.

‘Very special. I’ve been waiting to score for this club for a long time, and the first is very special.

“It’s a very difficult place to come. It’s important we got the first goal and could move forward.

“You’ve seen in the past few weeks what players are doing when they come off the bench. There’s a lot of depth and it brings fresh energy, which is what we need,’ he told Sky Sports.
