Bosso eyes consistency after Barau FC’s first NPFL win

Barau FC of Kano finally tasted victory in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), securing a 3-1 win over fellow newcomers Khun Khalifat in Aba on Matchday 6.

The win, their first in the top flight, came at the Enyimba International Stadium, the adopted home of the Owerri-based opposition.

Despite the breakthrough, head coach Ladan Bosso isn’t getting carried away. Instead, he’s already focused on maintaining momentum.

‘Actually, I am so happy with the result. Our players all did well to secure this victory,’ Bosso said during the post match briefing. He quickly pivoted to the future, emphasizing the importance of consistency.

‘It is very important that the team builds on this performance, remain focused, and prepare strongly for our next home fixture against Warri Wolves.’

The match saw Khun Khalifat take an early lead in the 14th minute, but Barau FC responded swiftly. Just two minutes later, forward Yahya Ibrahim equalized with a composed finish, assisted by Sai’du Salisu.

Midfielder Hilary Ekawu then gave the Maliya Boys, Barau FC’s nickname, a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute, converting Bismark’s pinpoint cross. Ibrahim sealed the win with his second goal of the match, finishing off a well placed pass from Sugau Aliyu. His brace brings his season tally to three goals.

Despite the win, Barau FC remains in the relegation zone, sitting 18th on the log with five points from five games.

Their next challenge comes on Sunday, October 5, 2025, when they host Warri Wolves at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano for Matchday 7.
