Lagos earns global spotlight as NSC applauds Sanwo-Olu
The National Sports Commission, (NSC), has lauded the Lagos State Government for its remarkable strides in sports development, describing the state as a leading sports hub with global recognition.
The Commission’s commendation followed Lagos’ successful hosting of the E1 Electric Boat Racing Championship over the weekend, the first of its kind in Africa. With this milestone, Lagos joins an elite list of global cities including Monaco, London, Jeddah, and Venice that have staged the prestigious E1 Boat Championship.
‘This is a major achievement. Lagos State is really setting the pace and living up to its status as Nigeria’s foremost commercial city in sports development, and the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, must truly be commended for his visionary, dynamic, and corporate-centric leadership,’ Bukola Olopade, the NSC DG said on behalf of Mallam Shehu Dikko, its Chairman.
The NSC noted that the boat racing event adds to a growing list of international sporting showcases hosted by Lagos this year, including the Access Bank Lagos International Marathon, the Lagos International Badminton Classic, and the ‘Chaos in the Ring’ boxing spectacle.
‘Governor Sanwo-Olu is a leader who understands the pivotal role sports play in the sociocultural and economic growth of a state. The NSC will continue to provide enabling support to every state to boost sports development across the country,’ the Commission noted.
He further emphasized that the Commission’s efforts are in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate to build a sustainable sports economy.
‘President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has given us the mandate at the Sports Commission to build a sustainable sports economy, and attracting international sporting events to the country is a major part, which Lagos State has been very actively involved in.’
