Flamingos depart for Morocco ahead of FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup
Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, are set to jet off from Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday, October 8, as they begin their final preparations for the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
Their first stop will be Casablanca, where the team will camp and ramp up training with two high profile friendlies against New Zealand on October 10 and Paraguay on October 14. On October 15, they’ll move into FIFA’s official hotel in Rabat, joining other teams ahead of the tournament.
Drawn into Group D, the Flamingos will face Canada, France, and Samoa. Their campaign kicks off on October 19 against Canada, followed by a clash with France on October 22, both matches scheduled for 8 p.m. Nigeria time at the Football Academy Mohammed VI in Sale.
Their final group match against Samoa is set for October 25 at 5 p.m.
Coach Bankole Olowookere’s squad enters the tournament brimming with confidence, having scored 44 goals in 10 warm up matches without conceding a single one.
With a balanced team and strong momentum, the Flamingos are determined to surpass their quarterfinal finish from the last edition in the Dominican Republic.
