NSC overturns Taekwondo Federation Athletes Representative election, declares Abdullateef sole eligible candidate

The National Sports Commission has overturned the controversial disqualification of Arinola Abdullateef from the recent Taekwondo Federation, NTF, elections, following an appeal.

The disqualification, allegedly carried out unilaterally by Rita Mosindi, Secretary General of the Taekwondo Federation of Nigeria, had sparked widespread criticism.

Among those disqualified was Jamilu Muhammad, reportedly removed from contention on the grounds that he had previously served as a National Coach.

This reasoning drew immediate backlash, as critics pointed out the inconsistency, Sunday Onofe, also a former National Coach, was cleared to contest.

Also disqualified was Paul Kolade, raising further concerns about fairness and transparency in the vetting process.

In a formal decision now issued by the National Sports Commission, the disqualification of Abdullateef has been declared wrongful and inconsistent with the election guidelines.

The clearance of Sunday Onofe has also been set aside, citing unequal application of standards. As a result, the outcome of the election has been nullified.

The Commission has ordered the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation to conduct a fresh election, with Arinola Abdullateef named as the sole eligible candidate.

The NTF has been directed to take immediate steps to implement the decision.
