Lagos to host Nigeria’s first National Intermediate Games in 2026

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced Lagos State as the host of the inaugural National Intermediate Games, set to debut in 2026.

The Intermediate Games, part of the NSC’s RHINSE initiative, are designed to identify and nurture sporting talent among Nigerian youth aged 16 to 19.

The event aims to bridge the gap between the National Youth Games and the National Sports Festival, creating a structured pathway for young athletes to transition to elite competition.

NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko emphasized the importance of a robust grassroots framework:

‘Sustainable podium success at international competitions begins with the right structure. The Intermediate Games will be a key pillar in achieving that.’
