2025 Gold Cup: Sporting Lagos Storm into Semi-Finals, Sunshine Stars Outclass GreenLock FC 2–0

Sporting Lagos have booked their place in the semi-finals of the 13th Gold Cup with a game to spare, following a commanding 3–0 victory over Abakaliki FC on MatchDay 3 at the FC Ebedei Stadium in Apele-Sagamu.

The Group A clash began with fireworks as Ibrahim Abdulganiyu opened the scoring in the 4th minute, finishing off a swift counterattack with a precise strike into the bottom left corner.

Abakaliki FC’s troubles deepened in the 13th minute when Ufeanyi Anyanwu was shown a straight red card for a technical foul. Sporting Lagos capitalized almost immediately, with Maleek Sanusi doubling the lead three minutes later after another well-worked counter.

Despite a brief resurgence, Abakaliki FC couldn’t find a breakthrough, thanks to a sharp performance from Sporting Lagos goalkeeper Joseph Okonkwo, who preserved the clean sheet.

The Lagos side sealed the win early in the second half when Yusuf Abdullahi fired home a low drive to make it 3–0. With three wins from three matches, Sporting Lagos sit comfortably atop Group A with nine points.

In another fixture, Sunshine Stars turned up the heat against GreenLock FC, netting two second-half goals to secure their first win of the tournament.

Substitute Gabriel Adepoju made an instant impact at the hour mark, scoring with a spectacular overhead kick. The victory was sealed in the 82nd minute when Kehinde Oluwole added a second, capping off a dominant display.
