Onoriode Oborevwori Dedicates Nigeria-France Sports Award to Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori

In a moment filled with emotion and pride, Onoriode Oborevwori, Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission and popularly known as Onos, was honoured with the Best Commissioner of the Year Award at the third edition of the Nigeria-France Sports Award.

The prestigious ceremony took place on October 20 at the Maison Des Arts in Le Plessis-Robinson, Paris, celebrating outstanding contributions to sports leadership, grassroots development, and international collaboration.

Organised by France-based Nigerian sports journalist and media entrepreneur Babatunde Ojora, convener of OJB Sport, the event continues to spotlight individuals whose work bridges local impact with global relevance.

Upon receiving the award, a visibly moved Onos expressed his gratitude, saying, ‘I’m so happy for winning this award. I was not expecting it but shocked. I want to thank God Almighty for this award.

‘I dedicate this award to my family, to my elder brother, the Governor of Delta State, and the special people of Delta State—especially my athletes. They are the ones that made it possible for me to be here today. I appreciate, God bless you all.’

Since his appointment in November 2024, Onos has emerged as a transformative figure in Delta State’s sports sector. His tenure has been marked by a strategic emphasis on school sports, gender-inclusive programming, and talent discovery, reinforcing Delta’s reputation as a powerhouse of athletic excellence.

His community-based development model has created sustainable pathways for young athletes, blending sports with education in a way that many now regard as a national benchmark.

The awards night also recognised other influential figures in Nigerian sports. Zulu, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Grassroots Sports Development, received the Award of Excellence for his work in nurturing talent at the community level.

Alhaji Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun, widely known as IBD Dende, was honoured with the Green and White Champion Award, while globally licensed FIFA and FA agent Dr Drew Uyi was acknowledged for his impact in international football representation.
