Remo Stars: Crisis or temporary blip? Champions slide to 17th after fourth straight loss
Remo Stars are facing a worrying dip in form that has sparked questions about whether the reigning NPFL champions are in crisis or simply enduring a rough patch.
Their 3–1 defeat to Kwara United in Ilorin marked their fourth consecutive loss across all competitions, including back-to-back defeats to Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League.
The numbers paint a grim picture. In their last four matches, Remo Stars have conceded 13 goals and scored just three. They now sit 17th in the NPFL standings with only three wins and four losses from eight games.
Their defensive frailties have been especially glaring, 11 goals conceded in five away matches this season, already surpassing the total they allowed in 10 away games last season. That’s a clear sign of regression.
Against Kwara United, the Sky Blue were undone by a brace from Junior Aimufua and a goal from Babatunde Bright. Jabbar Malik’s late strike offered little consolation. The defeat was their heaviest of the season domestically and came at a time when fans expected renewed focus on the league following their continental exit.
Adding to the concern is the absence of head coach Daniel Ogunmodede from the touchline in the last two games. His absence has coincided with the team’s slump, raising questions about leadership and morale within the squad.
Whether this is a full-blown crisis or a temporary blip remains to be seen. But with the team’s form dipping, defensive issues mounting, and their manager missing in action, Remo Stars must act fast to avoid slipping further into trouble.
