UEFA Shortlists Osimhen, Foden, Merino, and Forbs for Champions League Player of the Week

UEFA has announced its shortlist for the Champions League Player of the Week following a thrilling round of group stage fixtures, with Victor Osimhen, Phil Foden, Mikel Merino, and Carlos Forbs earning top honors for their standout performances.

Osimhen led Galatasaray to a commanding 3–0 victory over Ajax in Amsterdam, delivering a clinical hat-trick that stunned the Dutch side and sent Galatasaray surging toward knockout qualification.

The Nigerian striker converted two penalties and added a powerful header, showcasing his versatility and composure under pressure. His performance not only secured the win but also elevated him to the top of the Champions League scoring charts.

Manchester City’s Foden was instrumental in their 4–1 triumph over Borussia Dortmund, scoring two spectacular goals from outside the box. The England international dictated the tempo of the match, combining flair with precision to dismantle Dortmund’s defensive structure.

Foden’s return to form was a timely boost for City, who now sit comfortably in their group standings.

Arsenal’s Merino, deployed in an advanced role due to injury absences, rose to the occasion with a brace in the Gunners’ 3–0 win over Slavia Prague. Merino opened the scoring just seconds into the second half and added a second with a well-timed header. His contribution helped Arsenal maintain their perfect record in the group stage.

Forbs delivered a breakout performance for Club Brugge in a dramatic 3–3 draw against Barcelona. The Portuguese winger scored twice and assisted the opening goal, leading a relentless counterattacking display that kept the Catalan giants on the back foot.

Forbs’ fearless approach and technical brilliance earned him widespread acclaim and solidified his status as one of the tournament’s rising stars.
