Nigeria ranked 22nd globally in player market value, trails Morocco in Africa

Nigeria has been ranked the 22nd most valuable footballing nation in the world, according to new data from Transfermarkt, which aggregates the market values of professional players globally.

Despite boasting a rich footballing heritage and a steady stream of talent, the Super Eagles trail Morocco, who lead the African continent in 17th place.

The combined market value of Nigerian players stands at approximately €281.7 million, placing the country just outside the top 20.

This valuation reflects the depth of talent Nigeria continues to produce, with stars like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze leading the charge in Europe’s top leagues.

Globally, England tops the list with a staggering €5.15 billion in total player value, followed closely by Brazil (€4.99b) and Spain (€4.76b).

Spain’s rise is buoyed by the emergence of Lamine Yamal, currently the world’s most valuable player at €200 million. France and Argentina round out the top five, with Kylian Mbappé and Julian Alvarez among their standout assets.
