‘Some things have to be rectified’: Osimhen speaks on Super Eagles bonus row

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has spoken out on the recent bonus dispute between the Nigerian national team and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

On Tuesday, the players refused to train in protest over unpaid bonuses and allowances.

The standoff was quickly resolved after NFF President Ibrahim Gusau intervened, allowing the team to return to training on Wednesday ahead of their crucial World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon.

Nigeria went on to defeat Gabon 4-1 on Thursday, but Osimhen made it clear that issues remain.

‘There are some things that have to be rectified,’ Osimhen told ESPN UK after the match. ‘I have to say big kudos to the NFF president, he swiftly came into the picture and got it sorted, which is fine and good. Now, we have come and won the game, everything is resolved, we go back to our hotel and try to see if we can get it done.’

The Galatasaray forward praised Gusau’s quick action but stressed that the underlying problems must be addressed to avoid future disputes.

Osimhen will now aim to lead Nigeria to another victory when they face DR Congo on Sunday, as the Super Eagles continue their push for World Cup qualification.
