Nigerian Track and Field Athletes Shine with Best Ever Performance at Islamic Solidarity Games
Nigeria’s track and field contingent capped off their participation at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games with a record-breaking performance, winning a total of 10 medals, their best haul in the competition’s history.
The team clinched two historic gold medals, five silver, and three bronze. While Nigeria still awaits its first individual gold medalist at the Games in athletics, the relay teams delivered emphatically.
The women’s 4x100m relay team stormed to victory in 44.27 seconds, while the mixed 4x400m relay team struck gold with a time of 3:16.27.
Oyesade Olatoye emerged as Nigeria’s standout track and field individual performer, winning two silver medals in the hammer throw and shot put.
Obaigeri Pamela Amaechi added silver in the discus throw, while Patience Okon George secured another in the 400m.
On the bronze side, rising star Gafaru Badmus impressed with a medal in the 400m, joined by Samuel Kure in the javelin.
Nigeria’s para-athletics team also contributed, with Ogochukwu Modesta Ogili winning silver in the shot put F55/56 event, and the men’s 4x100m relay team earning bronze.
