NWFL Confirms Castmog Ladies’ Relegation Over Licensing Breach

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has confirmed the relegation of Castmog Ladies from the 2025/26 Premiership season after the Abeokuta-based club failed to meet mandatory registration and licensing requirements.

In a statement issued by NWFL Media Director Samuel Ahmadu on Monday, November 24, the Secretariat explained that Castmog Ladies had been warned alongside two other clubs to comply with the regulations but missed the deadline despite repeated reminders.

Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi stressed that the decision was necessary to safeguard the integrity of the league.

‘Compliance with registration and licensing requirements is non-negotiable. It is essential to maintaining a credible and competitive system while ensuring the long-term growth of women’s football in Nigeria,’ she said.

Shabi added that the Secretariat has already begun adjusting logistics to reflect the revised structure, with updated fixtures and schedules to be communicated to clubs.

‘Our focus is to ensure the season proceeds smoothly on Wednesday, November 26. Transparency and professionalism remain our priority,’ she noted.

With Castmog Ladies officially relegated, the Premiership will now feature 19 teams. Rivers Angels, who were originally scheduled to face Castmog Ladies in the opening round, will observe a bye along with other clubs drawn against the Ogun State side later in the campaign.

The revised Matchday One fixtures will see Bayelsa Queens take on Edo Queens, Adamawa Queens face Pacesetters Queens, Heartland Queens meet Ekiti Queens, and Naija Ratels host Ibom Angels in Group A.

Group B will feature Nasarawa Amazons against Delta Queens, Confluence Queens versus Abia Angels, Sunshine Queens against Robo Queens, Ahudiyannem Queens meeting Remo Stars Ladies, and Dannaz Ladies facing Osun Babes.
