Oshanugor Applauds Team Nigeria’s Scrabble Triumph in Accra, Vows Major Support for National Teams
Nigeria’s supremacy in global Scrabble has once again been emphatically confirmed, and one of the sport’s most passionate supporters, Charles Oshanugor, is leading the celebration.
Oshanugor, a respected Match Commissioner with the Nigeria Soccer Federation USA (NSF-USA), hailed Team Nigeria’s remarkable performance at the 2025 World English Scrabble Players Association Championship (WESPAC) in Accra.
The Green Locusts outclassed 26 nations, including long-time powerhouse, the United States, in what many have described as the best-organized WESPAC in history.
Team Nigeria’s dominance was nothing short of spectacular. With 350 wins, a staggering +8975 spread, and a commanding 54.7% win rate, they stormed to the Best Country Crown, leaving hosts Ghana and perennial rivals Kenya far behind.
‘For Nigeria to wrestle the crown from the USA and the rest of the world is simply monumental,’ Oshanugor declared with pride. ‘This achievement proves once again that Nigeria is a force to reckon with, the undisputed leader in global Scrabble.’
He commended the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) for assembling a perfect blend of youthful, hungry talents and seasoned veterans, describing it as the winning formula that will sustain Nigeria’s dominance for years to come.
Beyond words of praise, Oshanugor pledged tangible support. The Delta-born sports administrator announced a full sponsorship package for the national teams and assured NSF President, Engineer Bright Idahosa, that he would mobilize friends and business partners to strengthen the movement.
‘This victory sends a powerful message to young Nigerians: with hard work, focus, and determination, they too can shine on the world stage,’ he said.
Oshanugor also lauded the newly constituted NSF board, calling its members ‘true builders of the sport in Nigeria and across Africa.’
He urged more private individuals and corporate organizations to back Scrabble, a sport where Nigeria has consistently demonstrated a natural competitive edge.
NSF President Engr. Idahosa revealed that Nigeria is already preparing for four major international championships in 2026: the West African Championship, the African Scrabble Championship in Monrovia, the World Youth Scrabble Championship in Nairobi, and the World Crossway Championships in Thailand.
