NSC Unveils Organizing Committee for 2027 Africa School Games in Abuja

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced the composition of a 21-member Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Africa School Games scheduled to take place in Abuja, Nigeria, in 2027.

Nigeria was unanimously selected as host of the 2027 edition during an extraordinary session of the ANOCA Executive Committee. In preparation, the NSC has moved swiftly to establish a credible team that will deliver a world-class event.

Speaking on the development, the Director General of the Commission, Bukola Olopade, expressed excitement at Nigeria’s hosting rights. ‘We are glad to host the Africa School Games. We were in Algeria for the last edition, and our athletes did well with spectacular podium performance.

‘We set up this organizing committee in order to have a befitting event in Abuja. We witnessed what transpired in Algeria, and we want to put up a better show,’ he said.

Olopade emphasized that the members of the committee were carefully selected based on their track records as sports administrators. He expressed confidence that the LOC, chaired by Mr. Lekan Abari with Abdulmumuni Shagaya as secretary, will ensure a memorable and successful Games.

Nigeria finished third at the 2025 Africa School Games in Algeria, securing a total of 25 medals—six gold, ten silver, and nine bronze—behind Algeria and Egypt, who placed first and second respectively.
