FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers: Guinea Overpowers D’Tigers in Second Consecutive Defeat
Nigeria’s D’Tigers suffered their second consecutive defeat at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers, falling 69–55 to Guinea in a tough outing on Saturday.
Despite flashes of individual brilliance, Nigeria struggled to find rhythm throughout the game. Guinea dominated from the start, racing to a 22–16 lead in the first quarter and extending their advantage to 35–26 by halftime.
The West African rivals-maintained control in the second half, outscoring Nigeria in every quarter and never relinquishing their lead.
Guinea led for over 38 minutes of the contest, with their biggest margin reaching 19 points. Nigeria, on the other hand, held the lead for less than a minute and never managed to mount a sustained comeback.
Both teams had standout performers: Souleymane Boum Jr. and Morris Udeze each posted an efficiency rating of 18, but Nigeria’s poor shooting proved costly.
D’Tigers shot just 27% from the field, including a dismal 17.14% from three-point range. Guinea fared better, converting 35% of their field goals and nearly 79% of their free throws.
