Abuja Half Marathon Unveils ₦2 Million Student Prize Package

Organisers of the Abuja City International Half Marathon have unveiled a special reward package worth over ₦2 million for the Student Race Category of this year’s edition.
The marathon, scheduled for December 6, 2025, introduces the student category to inspire young athletes nationwide to embrace long-distance running and contribute to Nigeria’s growing road-race culture.
Competing students will now vie for substantial cash prizes, with rewards structured to award ₦1,000,000 for first place, ₦500,000 for second, ₦300,000 for third, ₦200,000 for fourth, and ₦100,000 for fifth.
This initiative underscores the marathon’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports development, offering young runners both motivation and financial encouragement.
Speaking on the significance of this year’s event, Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, Managing Director of Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML), highlighted the economic and social impact of long-distance races in Nigeria.
She noted that the carefully designed route will allow residents and spectators to fully appreciate the endurance and brilliance of the runners.
Mrs. Olopade further emphasized that the marathon not only promotes healthy living and tourism but also stimulates business activity across the city, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for economic growth and community engagement.
