Chukwueze Benched; Iwobi, Bassey Start as Fulham Seek First Win Over Man City in 16 Attempts

Samuel Chukwueze returned to Fulham’s substitutes’ bench on Tuesday evening against Manchester City at Craven Cottage, after starting in the 2-1 victory over Tottenham last weekend.

The Nigerian winger had provided the assist for Fulham’s opening goal in that match, his third in six Premier League appearances, making him the club’s leading provider and placing him ahead of compatriot Alex Iwobi, who has two assists. If introduced, it would mark Chukwueze’s sixth substitute appearance in seven games.

Meanwhile, Calvin Bassey continued his strong run in the side with his 13th start in 14 league matches this season, while Iwobi maintained his ever-present record, starting his 14th consecutive game.

Iwobi will be particularly motivated, as he is still chasing his first career win against Manchester City across all competitions.

The challenge is formidable. City have won their last 15 Premier League meetings with Fulham, the longest winning streak one team has ever recorded against another in English league history.

Yet Fulham enter the clash in good home form, having won four of their last five league matches at Craven Cottage, with their only setback coming against leaders Arsenal.

The Cottagers are also aiming to secure three consecutive home victories for the first time since December 2023.

Remarkably, the last time they achieved such a run with clean sheets in each match was back in January and February 2011 under Mark Hughes.
