Lagos Sports Commission Unveils Packed Detty December Calendar
The Lagos State Sports Commission has officially unveiled its vibrant lineup of activities for the 2025 ‘Detty December’ celebrations, promising a month-long spectacle of sports, recreation, and community engagement across the city.
Branded under the theme ‘One City, Endless Experiences,’ the programme features over two dozen events designed to energize Lagosians and showcase the city’s dynamic sporting culture.
Kicking off on December 1st with the ‘Xmas Swimming Experience’ at Rowe Park and Ports Centre, the calendar runs through to the Lagos Countdown on December 31st at Agege Stadium.
Among the standout events is the Lagos Kids Mini Marathon on December 6th at Orange Island, Lekki, which is expected to draw hundreds of young runners in a festive atmosphere.
On December 12th, Surulere will host the Lagos Grand Horse Race, a three-day spectacle that blends tradition, sport, and entertainment.
Basketball fans can look forward to the Youth Alive Basketball Fiesta from December 12th to 14th at Rowe Park Sports Centre, while chess enthusiasts will converge at Orchid Hotel in Lekki-Ajah for the Nigeria National Chess Championship from December 15th to 17th.
Boxing takes center stage later in the month with multiple high-profile bouts, including ‘Chaos in the Ring’ and the ‘Governor’s Belt Boxing’ event, both scheduled at Teslim Balogun Stadium.
The programme also includes community driven events like the Surulere Fiesta, Twitter Football, and Free Kick Lagos, as well as elite competitions such as the Daniel Ford International Elite Youth Cup and the Orekoya Alliance Tournament in Badagry.
Each event is strategically placed across Lagos to ensure inclusivity and city-wide participation.
With venues ranging from Eko Atlantic City to Agege, Yaba, and Lagos Island, the Detty December programme reflects the Commission’s commitment to promoting sports as a unifying force and a driver of youth development.
