Arokodare’s Wolves on Track to Become Premier League’s Worst Ever Team

Super Eagles forward, Tolu Arokodare’s Wolverhampton Wanderers look set to become the worst team in Premier League history after a disastrous start to the season.

Rob Edwards’ arrival from Middlesbrough was meant to spark a revival, but his side remain winless in three matches under his leadership and have collected just two points from their opening 14 games.

That return is the lowest ever at this stage of a Premier League campaign, leaving Wolves on course to break unwanted records.

The Midlands club’s goal difference of -22 only deepens the crisis. The only other team to have managed two points after 14 matches was Sheffield United in 2020/21, who at least had a slightly better goal difference of -17.

Several other clubs have endured similarly bleak starts with five points at this stage, including Sheffield United last season, Swindon Town in 1993/94, Southampton in 2022/23, QPR in 2012/13, Sunderland in 2005/06, and Aston Villa in 2015/16.

Derby County in 2007/08 and Sheffield Wednesday in 1999/00 had six points, but every one of these teams was relegated.

Wolves’ current points-per-game average of 0.14 projects to just five points across the full season. That would not only surpass Derby’s infamous record of 11 points in 2007/08, it would obliterate it.

Southampton narrowly avoided that fate last season with 12 points, while Sunderland in 2005/06 and Sheffield United in 2023/24 finished with 15 and 16 points respectively.

With fixtures against Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool looming, Wolves’ prospects of turning the tide look bleak.

Unless Edwards can engineer a dramatic turnaround, his side are not just staring at relegation—they are on course to be remembered as the worst team the Premier League has ever seen.
