Fatodu: Swimming Fiesta Highlights Lagos’ Push for Inclusive Youth Sports
The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and sports collaboration as part of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo‑Olu’s drive to promote inclusiveness across all sporting activities.
Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, made this known during the Swimming Fiesta held at the Olympic‑sized pool inside Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba.
Fatodu praised the dedication of young athletes participating in the event and acknowledged the sacrifices made by parents who consistently support their children’s sporting ambitions.
He highlighted the State’s efforts to make swimming more accessible, especially in riverine communities, through initiatives such as Swim for Change.
According to him, Lagos State’s recent performances at the National Youth Games, where the State secured multiple gold medals, reflect a growing culture of excellence that the government intends to strengthen.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to sports development, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, noted that sports remain a priority alongside infrastructure expansion across the State.
He stressed that youth engagement is essential to Lagos’ growth and described swimming as a discipline that demands punctuality, dedication, and focus. Ogunlende emphasized that collaboration, between government, parents, and communities, is central to sustaining success in Lagos sports.
He added that continued partnership between parents and the Sports Commission will play a vital role in nurturing future champions and maintaining the State’s leadership in youth sports development.
