Salah Strikes Late as Egypt Edge Zimbabwe in AFCON 2025 Opener

Egypt launched their Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 campaign with a dramatic 2–1 victory over Zimbabwe in Agadir, secured by a last-minute strike from captain Mohamed Salah.

The Pharaohs, led by the Liverpool forward, fell behind midway through the first half when Prince Dube stunned them with a composed finish.

The Zimbabwe midfielder controlled the ball inside the box before slotting past Mohamed El Shenawy to give the Warriors a surprise lead.

Egypt pressed hard for a response and eventually found it in the 64th minute through Omar Marmoush.

The Manchester City attacker latched onto a ball in the left channel and rifled an emphatic effort into the roof of the net to restore parity.

With the game heading towards a draw, Salah produced the decisive moment in stoppage time. Bringing the ball under control inside the area, he dispatched a clinical low strike into the corner beyond Washington Arubi to complete the comeback and hand Egypt the perfect start to their Group B campaign.

Salah and Egypt will return to action on Friday, December 26, when they face South Africa in their second group fixture.
