Osimhen Becomes Second Nigerian to Hit Seven Attempts in AFCON History

Victor Osimhen has etched his name into Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations history by becoming only the second Super Eagles player to fire seven shots in a single AFCON match.
According to OptaJean, the 26‑year‑old striker matched Victor Obinna Nsofor’s record from 2010, when Obinna registered the same tally against Algeria.
Osimhen’s landmark came in Nigeria’s clash with Tanzania, where his relentless attacking intent underlined his hunger for goals.
Despite scoring just once in his nine AFCON appearances so far, against Equatorial Guinea in Côte d’Ivoire, he has contributed three assists, proving his value to the team even when not finding the net.
Already Nigeria’s second all‑time scorer across competitions behind Rashidi Yekini, Osimhen’s prolific club form with Galatasaray this season, 12 goals, the highest by a Nigerian in Europe, adds weight to expectations that he will soon translate his efficiency onto the continental stage.
