Eto’o Suspended by CAF After Morocco AFCON 2025 Quarter-Final Outburst
Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), has been handed a four-match suspension and fined $20,000 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following disciplinary proceedings linked to his conduct during Cameroon’s quarter-final defeat to Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The sanction stems from Eto’o’s outburst in the stands at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on January 9, where he reacted angrily to refereeing decisions during Cameroon’s 2-0 loss.
His fury reportedly spilled over in the presence of CAF president Patrice Motsepe and Moroccan federation chief Fouzi Lekjaa, who remained composed as other spectators intervened to calm the former Indomitable Lion.
In a statement released on January 14, Fecafoot confirmed the punishment but expressed outrage at CAF’s handling of the matter.
The federation described the ruling as ‘devoid of any explicit motivation’ and accused the continental body of favoritism against Cameroon.
It pledged full support for Eto’o and announced that he would exercise his right to appeal within the prescribed timeframe.
‘The Federation takes note of the decision of its President to exercise, within the prescribed time limits and in the prescribed forms, the means of appeal provided for by the applicable texts.
Fecafoot reaffirms its constant support for its President and its commitment to the respect of the principles governing credible disciplinary justice,’ the statement read.
