AFCON 2025: Moroccan Referee Jalal Jayed to Officiate Egypt Vs Nigeria Bronze Final

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Moroccan referee Jalal Jayed will take charge of the Africa Cup of Nations third-place playoff between Egypt and Nigeria on Saturday at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.

Jayed, who has already overseen Uganda Vs Tanzania (1–1) and Mozambique Vs Cameroon (1–2) during the group stage, will lead a 100% Moroccan trio on the pitch.

He will be assisted by compatriots Zakaria Brinsi and Akarkad Mostafa. Tunisia’s Khalil Hassani and Kenya’s Peter Waweru will serve as additional assistants, with Waweru acting as the fourth official.

VAR duties will be handled by Algerian referee Lahlou Benbraham, who previously officiated Senegal–DR Congo (1–1) in the first round.

He will be supported by Tunisian Haythem Guirat and Moroccan Hamza El Fariq, while Ivorian Sinko Zeli has been appointed as the evaluating referee.

The appointment of Jayed and his team ensures strong regional representation for the ‘small final,’ as Nigeria aim to extend their perfect record in AFCON bronze-medal matches and Egypt look to claim a fourth third-place finish in the competition’s history.
