LSWA Donates Equipment to Strengthen Weightlifting in Lagos

The Lagos State Weightlifting Association (LSWA) has taken a significant step toward improving the development of weightlifting in the state by donating training equipment to athletes.

The presentation ceremony was held at the Mobolaji Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos, and was attended by officials and athletes alike.

Speaking at the event, Director Technical of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Ife Ogunlaja, highlighted the importance of the donation, stressing that the new equipment would enhance the performance of weightlifters and allow them to focus more on their training.

He explained that the addition to the existing facilities would help athletes prepare more effectively for both national and international competitions.

Vice Chairman of the LSWA, Aderemi Lasisi, described the gesture as a way of promoting the growth of weightlifting in Lagos. He noted that the sport does not receive as much attention as football or basketball, and urged stakeholders to support its development as a key international discipline.

Lasisi emphasized that proper equipment is essential for training athletes to compete successfully at all levels.

He further revealed that the distribution of equipment would begin in Lagos before extending to other states in the southwest region. In his remarks, Lasisi also advised athletes to steer clear of performance‑enhancing drugs and remain committed to their training efforts.

The donation marks a renewed push to strengthen weightlifting in Lagos, giving athletes the tools they need to excel and positioning the state as a hub for the sport’s advancement in Nigeria.
