Bronze Feels Like Gold: Tinubu Salutes Super Eagles’ After AFCON 2025 Bronze Triumph

President Bola Tinubu has hailed the Super Eagles after their hard‑fought bronze medal triumph at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Nigeria defeated seven‑time champions Egypt 4–2 on penalties in Casablanca following a tense goalless draw in regulation time, securing the country’s ninth AFCON bronze.

In his congratulatory message, the President praised the team for showing resilience and character in bouncing back from their semi‑final defeat to hosts Morocco.

He commended the players for embodying the determination and persistence that Nigerians are known for, describing their achievement as a source of national pride.

‘Despite their good run during the tournament, the Eagles lost the semi‑final match to Morocco during the penalty shootout last Wednesday, and our people’s hopes of winning the championship were dashed,’ Tinubu said.

‘However, our players remained undaunted, and exhibiting the resilience of the Nigerian spirit, their efforts have now paid off.

‘We will all be proud of them as they receive their hard‑earned bronze medal on Sunday in Rabat, Morocco. Thank you, our gallant Super Eagles. Thank you, our national team players. This bronze medal surely feels good like gold.’

The victory capped a spirited campaign for Eric Chelle’s side, who overcame disappointment to finish on the podium for the 17th time in AFCON history and reaffirm Nigeria’s status as one of Africa’s footballing powerhouses.
