Akor Adams: Chelle Made Us Better, Stronger at AFCON 2025
Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has hailed Nigeria as the best team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, despite finishing with a bronze medal.
The Super Eagles defeated Egypt 4-2 on penalties in the third-place playoff on Saturday, bouncing back from their semi-final defeat to hosts Morocco.
Adams, who started the game against Egypt, was part of a reshuffled line-up that included Paul Onuachu, Samuel Chukwueze and Raphael Onyedika, with several regulars rested after enduring 120 minutes in the semi-final clash against the Atlas Lions.
Speaking in the mixed zone after the match, the Sevilla forward praised the unity within the squad and credited head coach Éric Chelle for his leadership.
‘We are the best, we are the best team. We came for the gold, we didn’t take it but we are proud of what we are able to achieve. We have a very strong group, everybody is going home with a better friendship with the next person as a better person,’ Adams said.
He added: ‘We are all grateful to Eric Chelle for what he has done for us as a group in the last three weeks. We are better people because of him. He has given me the opportunity to represent Nigeria.’
The Super Eagles’ bronze medal capped a spirited campaign in Morocco, where they showcased resilience and depth under Chelle’s guidance, reinforcing optimism about the team’s future.
